Music News December 9, 2011

Happy Friday to everyone on AFGM!  Its been one heck of a busy week for myself but I managed to compile some news worthy articles for you fine folk this morning.  So here is what's making [AFGM] news.

An official press statement has been given for the upcoming 7th Annual Dimebash, in honour of the late great Dimebag Darrell.  All proceeds from this event will go towards the "Ronnie James Dio Stand Up & Shout Cancer Fund".

"Today marks the 7th year, which still doesn't seem like a reality to me.  Sometimes I think, 'Boy this sure is a long ass tour,' but then I focus back in and realize what I'm working on at this moment and I just have to smile and be thankful for all the amazing people that surround me - thanks to him. I hope everyone enjoys this event as much as we like bringing it to them. It's nothing more, nothing less, than 'About a damn good time!' - one of my favorite Dime pastimes and phrases. There are no words to express my thanks to all the artists who make this event special and give 'us fans' a night to remember two truly amazing people and the music they created! I am forever at your beckon call, so c'mon out and experience the evening with us. It's going to be quite magical!" -Rita Haney (longtime girlfriend of Dime and the person who knew him best)

For all those thinking of attending or in the area, ticket prices are $20 and are on sale now at this location. Doors open at 7pm, show begins at 8pm.

Sam Dunn of Banger Films, a Canadian documentarian (from various projects such as "Metal: A Headbangers Journey", "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage") recently conducted an interview with 'Spinner.com' in regards to the Alice Cooper documentary he is working on.

"We know Alice through various projects that we've done.  We interviewed Alice for 'Headbanger's Journey'. He's also featured pretty prominently in two episodes of 'Metal Evolution', both in Shock Rock and Early Metal U.S. [episodes]. He's a pretty fascinating character, who has been through a lot in his life. He's one of those musicians that maybe he hasn't had a hit in a long time, but everyone knows who Alice Cooper is because of his influence on pop culture and the big songs he had in the '70s. . . We're in the early stages of telling the story of his career. We're probably going to focus in on his early years up to his comeback in the '80s. We're exploring a different stylist approach with this film. It won't be talking heads; it's going to be more of an archival and animated journey through his career. He's such a rich visual artist, it makes so much sense to try and do it in a different way. I think we're just a little bit sick of doing talking head interviews, to be honest [laughs], after doing 300 of them for 'Metal Evolution'. So it's really the story of Alice's career from the '60s right up to the '80s and everything he went through — the ups and the downs, battles with alcoholism, being raised in a Christian family, rebelling against that but then coming back to faith later in his career, and moving from town to town, and trying to find his place."

The upcoming Cooper documentary is tentative for premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012.

Currently it's only available for iPhone and iTunes but Nuclear Blast Records, in partnership with Byteberry have developed a jigsaw puzzle game dedicated to heavy metal!

From independent developer Byteberry, in collaboration with Nuclear Blast, comes a highly unique jigsaw puzzle game, Action Puzzle, in which players are challenged with solving video clip puzzles in a highly unique heavy metal inspired environment.

In "Action Puzzle" (Metal), compatible with the Apple iPhone, Apple iPod touch, and the Apple iPad, players solve video based puzzles by putting the individual pieces together.  Seems easy right?  By playing the game, watching the videos during the game, and listening to legendary metal tunes, "Action Puzzle" offers players a unique experience.  The app includes 13 video puzzles by 11 classic heavy metal bands.

Action Puzzle has 3 modes of play (Classic, Squares and Challenge) and features a built-in audio player supporting multitasking, enabling players to listen to metal tracks as the game runs in the background. The game also supports the headset’s remote control functions. Additionally, Action Puzzle has a built-in video player making it possible to watch any and all video-clips at convenience, and with intuitive controls.  And lastly, "Action Puzzle" has 8 unique puzzle shapes, 5 levels of difficulty, and 24 wallpapers to collect (with codes gathered online).  Check it all out here.

On a side note, I have really been cranking this remix album from Asking Alexandria called "Stepped Up And Scratched".  I am not a huge fan in to this dub-step (aka 90's techno) movement but I did enjoy the fine bridge between industrial and metal on this album.

I'm sure a fair amount of readers are asking "Is AFGM on crack on this post?".  Unfortunately not, I am an avid lover of this album, regardless of the backlash.  Check some of the tunes out yourself if you feel inclined to make an opinion over it:

Closure (Mecha remix)

To the Stage (Bare)

Another Bottle Down (Tomba)
