Halestorm @ MOD Club

All ready for a great hard rock night at a great venue?  For all in the GTA area, head down to the ever great sounding MOD Club and check out some fresh American hard rock blood... New Medicine & HALESTORM

Our good friends from Inertia Entertainment are hosting the event.  With a 7pm door time and tickets only running for $16 (+ $4.20 of TM fines..I mean fees), it's a good excuse to bring a friend for some good vibes, good brews and good tunes for the night.  Tickets will be available at the door (confirmed by Intertia Entertainment)

Halestorm have already hit the charts hard (#40 in Billboard 200) with their self titled first album (released in 2009), and now have a grand sophomore album that is getting even higher reviews (#15 on Billboard 200).  Halestorm will be touring in support of their latest release, "A Strange Case Of", which dropped on April 10th, 2012.

"On the surface, a band blending driving hard rock with powerful ballads would seem like a fairly boilerplate proposition in a world already populated by Shinedown, Three Days Grace, and any number of other faceless post-grunge acts. Fortunately, Halestorm have their not-so-secret weapon, singer Lzzy Hale, whose powerful vocals easily set the band apart from its peers on its sophomore album, The Strange Case Of.... Delivering another versatile performance, Hale helps to give every song that special something, adding the right amount of snarl and grit to more aggressive songs like "Love Bites (So Do I)," while also bringing genuine passion to the more emotional "In Your Room." Her ability to convey emotion without being dramatic is an asset that Halestorm take full advantage of, and to some extent, probably rely on. This isn't to insinuate that the compositions backing up Hale are bad, but the music, while solidly written and cleanly executed, isn't anything that fans of the genre haven't already heard before. It's a bit of a boon, then, that the strength that Halestorm play to is an exceptional one, and anyone that has grown tired of the current crop of meatheaded hard rock bands trying to seem sensitive would do well to give The Strange Case Of... a spin." -All Music

As mentioned in the poster, Halestorm will have a equally good rocking band as direct support.  Minneapolis' New Medicine (formerly A Verse Unsung) will take the stage before Halestorm.

"The vocals are the greatest point of this album. There is not a bland sounding song on this album, hell even the ballads have character to them. The way “Rich kids” is delivered for example is the definitive point on this album for me. It is schizophrenic catchiness with a seriously contagious energy to it but then the ballad ‘Little Sister’ is a ballad with real heart to it though it doesn’t sound forced or sappy. Even the lyrics and subject matter are not cliché such as the aforementioned track which deals with the death of the vocalists’ sister who died at a young age.

The thing is New Medicine deliver a sound that sounds fresh in a place where many bands end up sounding mundane and boring. To sum it up New Medicine could be your latest fix if you are prepared for the trip." -Sputnik Music

Granted, I don't know a whole lot about the opening act for the evening (DOLL). But being that they are from Ottawa and we gotta showcase our music up north, check out their music video for "FMO":

So I managed to step into the venue just minutes before Halestorm took the stage (thanks goes out to Noel and Inertia Entertainment for hooking up the tickets!).  Now I know the venue helped quite a bit (since I believe the MOD Club has some of the best sound in the city), but I very much underestimated Halestorm last night.

Lzzy and her brother Arejay did a wonderful job entertaining the crowd, interacting with them and ripping through song after song with 100% energy.  And just had to say this as well, but Lzzy's vocals WOWED me!  That chick can sure giver when it comes to hitting those notes and screams.
