In This Moment - Adrenalize

So the sexy/dirty driven machine that is In This Moment are back at it again with another music video.  Coming off their recent album "Blood", you can check out the latest installment of ITM's visual media with the track "Adrenalize", seen below:

In This Moment have always been a good band in my mind.  Trollers and 'experts' will instantly write them off as a band who got signed because of the front woman.  Let's not forget that they have pumped out four albums in the 8 year span they have been together as a group, the fact they are signed to one of the largest rock/metal record labels in the world and have consistently been on major selling tours.  Yes, because tits gets you all that.

Anyways, I'm going to contain my attitude today despite the annoyance that some 'objective' (no pun intended) analysis that some people give the band.  I feel the credit is due.  Maria has the best of both worlds with a distinct scream and some great vocal range with her melodies, only to be met with the creative background of Chris Howarth.

GW: Is that the way a lot of your songs are written?

CH: That’s how Maria writes most of her melodies. We’ll work on a few musical passages and before we even begin to write lyrics, she’ll hum along to them and skit-skat a bunch of different voices and ideas for a verse or chorus. Then, we’ll go through them with Kevin and pick out which style we like best for the song and use that rough match to go back and write lyrics with.

GW: Who were some of your early guitar influences?

CH: I was an '80s dude. I love Kiss, Van Halen and Mötley Crüe. And I’ve always been a follower of great players like George Lynch, Warren DeMartini and the Shrapnel Records guys. People like Marty Friedman and Jason Becker. They’ve all influenced my lead style.

You can read the rest of the interview over at Guitar World.  But, what is your take on the band?  Have you had the chance to check out the other music videos and songs from ITM?  Have you ever seen them live?  I am curious for other people's opinion (biased or not...as long as you got something to back it up).  I will admit that I was quite the fan of previous albums such as "The Dream" and "A Star-Crossed Wasteland" and to be honest, I found those albums to be more appealing than the current album being promoted ("Blood") but I can see where the band is coming from when they wanted to capture a "darker" atmosphere...

GW: The new album, Blood, is a lot harder than your previous albums. Did you set out to record it that way?

CH: We didn’t really go into the project with the idea of making an album that was “harder." We kept saying, “Let’s be darker.” That was the phrase Maria kept using. She wouldn’t say things like, “Let’s have heavier guitars or be different." She would say she wanted it to be darker or more haunting. We went in with the idea of everything being “not happy,” and that sort of lent itself to making the album as a whole sound much heavier and meaner.

So like I previously stated, "Adrenalize" comes off of In This Moment's forth studio album, "Blood", which was released on August 14th, 2012 via Century Media Records.
