Music News and New Music For April 22nd, 2013

So of course, when running your own blog solo it can be tough to keep up with the s**tload of stuff that comes across our ears over a weekend!  Some good, some bad, some not even worth mentioning.  I guess that's how I use AFGM in general.  These articles that I go through everyday from various sites (Blabbermouth,. Bravewords, AV Club, Music News, MissInfo, Billboard, Rolling Stone, etc.) and sort of "filter" some of the nonsense news such as the latest fashion design, who's got beef with who and who ISN'T doing music...still.

These articles brought forth are for a few different reasons:

1. They are relevant music information that pertains to you as a reader, no matter the level of intent or the genre.

2. They are relevant to the music I would be currently listening to or a genre I have put some attention and focus on.

3. I am somewhat patriotic about my Canadian music, so that always comes as a first for me.  I enjoy music from all parts of the world respectively, but I still have to promote local if I can.  Canadian music rocks!

4. Because it's humourous and we can ALWAYS use a good laugh.  Rarely will it be at someone's expense...but then again I am just the guy talking about it.  They're the ones causing the comments.

So in closing, I trust you all will not read EVERY single article posted here.  But I hope you find something of use here and keep the conversation going by forwarding it onto someone else.  Click on each article heading for redirection to the full article.  Cheers!

Rita MacNeil honoured in private Cape Breton ceremony:

Q&A: Dave Grohl Reflects on Inducting Rush Into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

What was it like to actually play with Rush?

It's terrifying to play your favorite band's song in front of your favorite band. It's one thing to sit in the basement and woodshed 2112, and its another to stand in front of Rush in a fucking kimono and a wig and try to use a wah-wah pedal in your platform shoes. It was amazing. Tonight was one of the most special nights of my life.

The mere mention of Toronto made them go nuts.

They didn't even say the name and the place went fucking crazy. That says it all. Honestly what's most important is that you survive 45 years of your life playing music. Surely its not the trophy or the plaque, but the fact that Rush finally were . . . I feel like their fans felt liberated. It was pretty awesome tonight to see Jann say, "And from Toronto," and the fans just went, "F**K YEAHHH." Everyone at the tables were just like, Jesus! It was amazing. That's what it's all about.

Peter Oundjian will continue to serve as conductor at the TSO’s 2016-17 season:

“The continuing success of the TSO is enormously important to me.  I am delighted to have hired 30 new musicians during my tenure and thrilled to see how the Orchestra is valued by the community. The TSO is an exceptional Orchestra and I look forward to the coming years, during which I have a great desire to take the Orchestra beyond Toronto to major cities of the world and continue building the strength of the Orchestra by increasing our endowment. I will also continue my philosophy of fostering relationships with guest conductors, soloists, and composers; many of whom have significant and long-term relationships with the TSO and bring fresh perspectives to our musicians.”

Two Door Cinema Club Leave the Nest:

"We're all switching phases after the summer 'cause for the most part, in between touring, we lived together. It made the most sense creatively to come back and be able to work together, but it's also a very unhealthy environment as well.  We're gonna spend some time settling in our own places, having a new base to work from. . . [It] feels like we're sort of gaining independence in a way. For six, nearly seven years we've been a band and we're gonna be individuals doing our own things in our own homes; it's a privilege that we just haven't been able to enjoy." -Alex Trimble

Live Review: YES @ Massey Hall, Toronto | April 10:

Finally as the album came to its end, so too did the band as they subtly walked off stage, giving the crowd a minute-and-a-half heart attack in hopes for an encore. Re-emerging, the audience heard Howe speak for the second time as he began to introduce his fellow band mates. Each generated more and more applause until it was Howe’s turn to be recognized, and Squire took the honor. As he did the crowd erupted with applause for the legendary guitar genius.

Queens Of The Stone Age Tease New Track, Discuss Elton John Collaboration:

“He was in a car listening to Them Crooked Vultures and his assistant said: you need to hear Queens. The guy driving the car was an old room-mate of mine! So all of a sudden I get a phone call at my house on a Sunday. I picked up and he said: [does the voice] ‘Hello Josh, this is Elton’. I thought someone was messing with me.

He said, ‘The only thing missing from your band is an actual queen!’ I said, Honey, you have no idea.
When he walked in, he said, do you have a ballad for me or what? I said no. We tracked lived for three hours, playing a rock and roll song. We just had a blast, he became part of our band. What really dawned on me what a music lover, what a workaholic he is.

The session had gotten really dark. When he left, we were on cloud nine. We got fired into the abyss of doing something we really loved again.”

All I ask is for a couple items. Hit me up if your band wants to help! They would be included in all the online ads, social media sites, band logo on the flyers, and their music played at the club during set changes, as well as in print ads! Hit me up asap and god bless! Let's show Boston how strong the music community is and what Boston means to the bands!!! Please email our management at alltogethermanagement@gmail.com with ideas, questions, or comments. The show date will be determined in the coming weeks and of course will be in Boston. Also if you are in a local Boston band and are interested in playing on this show, please email management as well."
