Music News and New Music For April 15th, 2013

So of course, when running your own blog solo it can be tough to keep up with the s**tload of stuff that comes across our ears over a weekend!  Some good, some bad, some not even worth mentioning.  I guess that's how I use AFGM in general.  These articles that I go through everyday from various sites (Blabbermouth,. Bravewords, AV Club, Music News, MissInfo, Billboard, Rolling Stone, etc.) and sort of "filter" some of the nonsense news such as the latest fashion design, who's got beef with who and who ISN'T doing music...still.

These articles brought forth are for a few different reasons:

1. They are relevant music information that pertains to you as a reader, no matter the level of intent or the genre.

2. They are relevant to the music I would be currently listening to or a genre I have put some attention and focus on.

3. Because it's humourous and we can ALWAYS use a good laugh.  Rarely will it be at someone's expense...but then again I am just the guy talking about it.  They're the ones causing the comments.

So in closing, I trust you all will not read EVERY single article posted here.  But I hope you find something of use here and keep the conversation going by forwarding it onto someone else.  Click on each article heading for redirection to the full article.  Cheers!

Black Sabbath to Premiere New Single on 'CSI' Season Finale:

“When we first heard that Black Sabbath was interested in premiering a song on CSI from their first studio album in 35 years, we were all really excited.   So many of us are longtime fans. And seeing as the album is titled 13 and this is the finale of CSI's Season 13, it seemed like the perfect match. We couldn't be more thrilled." -Don McGill (executive producer)

Billy Bragg and English Beat Singer Respond to Margaret Thatcher's Death:

This is not a time for celebration. The death of Margaret Thatcher is nothing more than a salient reminder of how Britain got into the mess that we are in today. Of why ordinary working people are no longer able to earn enough from one job to support a family; of why there is a shortage of decent affordable housing; of why domestic growth is driven by credit, not by real incomes; of why tax-payers are forced to top up wages; of why a spiteful government seeks to penalise the poor for having an extra bedroom; of why Rupert Murdoch became so powerful; of why cynicism and greed became the hallmarks of our society.

Raising a glass to the death of an infirm old lady changes none of this. The only real antidote to cynicism is activism. Don't celebrate – organise! -Bragg

More than half of Justin Bieber’s Twitter followers are fake:

“With a huge celebrity Twitter account of this size and age it is completely normal to have between 20-50 percent of followers who are inactive or fake.  It is not necessarily an indication of anything sinister.” -Maje Crumpton (spokesperson for Socialbakers)

Concert Review: Muse high-fived and played the hits at the Air Canada Centre:

Through a two hour concert, the group relied heavily on their last two albums, only dipping twice (singles Stockholm Syndrome and Our Time is Running Out) into their pre-American success career. (And Stockholm Syndrome, it could be argued, is only famous in North America for its mid-00s appearance in a video game).

'Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead' tops iTunes chart:

'After less than 12 hours of the news of Baroness Thatcher's death breaking, a version of the track credited to Judy Garland (who played Dorothy Gale in The Wizard Of Oz) appeared in the preliminary Official Singles sales flash at Number 54, while a 1961 cover version by Ella Fitzgerald climbed to 146'. -Officialcharts.com

Gregg Allman Music Biopic in the Works From 'CBGB' Filmmakers:

“We knew it was a great story but didn’t know how great it was until we read the book.  That journey and coming out the other side is not the normal falling-into-hell story that rock 'n' roll often is.” -Randall Miller

Flaming Lips Explain 'The Terror':

"When someone told me they looked at the album cover . . . they thought it was a picture of an explosion that was happening.  And the dude was just sitting there, and the camera caught him – he didn't know I took the picture – just a millisecond before he realizes that this thing in front of him is blown up. And in a way, I think that's what the song . . . kind of does." -Coyne

SOILWORK Frontman Discusses Departure Of Guitarist PETER WICHERS:

"... it was pretty weird it all came out, out in the open. His statement was saying that it was because of “creative differences,” which wasn’t true whatsoever. We really don’t know why he decided to put that…maybe he felt bad. Maybe he didn’t want to put he didn’t like being away from his family, which was the reason the first time. He felt bad toward the fans to put that statement out, but it’s a very valid reason, it’s very understandable. That’s why we got a little disappointed. He put it out without asking the band; it came out of nowhere. We knew it was coming, but it was weird how it came out."

Misery Signals Successfully Crowdfund Over $50,000 For New Album:

Album Review: GHOST B.C. Infestissumam:

"It seems the trend is to carry occult rock further and further back into the annals of time, probing deeper into rock's infancy in search of a new Year Zero (the title of track 6, natch). Eventually we'll arrive at a Satanic form of the blues, at which point we'll be forced to acknowledge that Nick Cave was ahead of us all along."

TYPE O NEGATIVE Members 'Not Cooperating' In Telling Of PETER STEELE's Story:

"I'm disappointed in the recent decision of the surviving TYPE O NEGATIVE members to not cooperate in the telling of his story. Between January and April, I established contact several times with each of them. Despite e-mails and phone conversations which were cordial and, I thought, positive, they have made this decision for reasons still unclear.

On the upside, more than 40 people have participated and shared thoughts, emotions and recollections for this project. This includes people verifiably close to Peter — family, close friends, music industry figures, members of FALLOUT, CARNIVORE and session musicians for TYPE O NEGATIVE. This book is being written in tribute to Peter and it is going forward at full steam." -Jeff Wagner

"...one of two new cuts due to grace the bands upcoming ‘Record Store Day‘ (April 20th) release."
