Rockstar Uproar 2013
So Jane’s Addiction, Alice In Chains, Coheed & Cambria and Circa Survive are rumoured for the 2013 Rockstar Uproar Festival? This coming from an unidentifiable source (via Metal Insider) that these band are at top pick for this year's tour. Makes sense when it comes to Alice In Chains and Coheed. Both bands either have a new album on the way or have released one in the past few months. You can actually check out my ongoing developments of the new Alice In Chains album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" at the link below:

Circa Survive is a band I have not dabbed in enough to comment on, other than I know they have a decent fan base. Now come to think of it, I remember seeing them with a big tour package at one point, but as you can tell it wasn't to my fancy. I think they wee touring the "Juturna" album at the time. The latest release they have is a highly praised, self released effort called "Violent Waves". It was released in August of 2012 so they have new material to show off still (especially us folk north of the border).

Jane's Addiction is the one that made me really scratch my head. IF confirmed, I do not see a reason why the band is going to pick up the headlining bill for a major tour. Granted they are still a great band that deserve a lot of attention for their years of good albums, but I don't recall any new material being released. An album was in the works for some time now (following up to their 2011 "The Great Escape Artist") but have not really elaborated on it. Is this JA's excuse to get on the road and test some new material?
"What I have not seen before is a group that's done a record, had somewhat of a theme – escapism – and then done a second record almost as if it was a follow-up movie. I want to do that. We have material left from The Great Escape Artist we didn't record. I'm very inspired to keep with the theme. Something's feeling right about it." -Perry Farrell

I'm just glad that the tour hasn't put all it's focus into one specific style of music. I am under suspicion that some major tours (as well as myself) are in a state of reform when it comes to their music delivery. We have had tours like Summer Slaughter, Rockstar Mayhem and Warped Tour that will not necessarily have the same bands over and over, but have found artists almost identical for touring purposes. Make sense though. most record labels tend to sign similar sounding bands (Rise Records, Sumerian, Road Runner [at one point]).
Not knocking these labels at all. They got a business to run and fans to sell music too. If one band sounds good, then maybe another one like it will. "And they tell two friends. And they tell their friends. And so on, and so on...you know how it goes". And speaking furthermore on the labels and signing similar bands, it's not the labels that sell the record, buy the tickets and pick up the merch. Even if bands sound almost painstakingly alike, they still have fans out there looking to buy it up.
2013 is the year for diversity when it comes to AFGM. More of everything versus a lot of one thing. Passing on my usual festivals this year for others that might get me more than I bargained for in the past. Hopefully Rockstar Uproar is one of them...
So the band lineup was announced via the official website over the weekend. And as the rumours confirm, we see Alice In Chains, Jane's Addiction, Coheed & Cambria, and Circa Survive are the top runners of the bill:
Other artists have been announced and as well and we couldn't be happier to see Canadian rocker Danko Jones joining the tour. Well deserved! Other artists such as Middle Class Rut and New Politics are new to me and will definitely be on my radar for future tours and releases. The surprising band on tour would have to be Walking Papers. The American super group features notable musicians such as Jeff Angell, Duff McKagan, Benjamin Anderson, and Barrett Martin. The band has only been around since 2012 but considering the associated acts (GnR, Screaming Trees, Missionary Position, etc), I am very excited to see and hear them!
"It was more radio rock-oriented and heavy rock-oriented before. I like the fact they were willing to change. That diversity was appealing to us. We helped out with that. For us to do this, we’d love to make it more dynamic. We like going that kind of shit. You go to something and get turned on to all of this different music. Variety is important. It’s a crime to pigeonhole yourself into one idea or kind of music. If you’re like, “I only listen to metal, man,” I think you’re missing out. I really do. I think there’s a lot of great stuff out there that will broaden your musical taste. On this tour, you may not dig everything, but you might be surprised and run across something really great. The second stage allows some bands to get some exposure to." -Sean Kinney
