Dead Celebrity Status - The Throwaway Kids

Well it took six years to get the sophomore album out by Canada's own Dead Celebrity Status, but the waiting for fans has been bittersweet.

I found out about these guys when doing my high school stint of making music.  My old group ROTE was scheduled to open for up and comers Out of Your Mouth at the good ol Twisters Nightclub in Chatham-Kent, ON.  The bill was being co-headlined by newly formed group DCS.  After doing some research about the group and finding out they were ex-members of rap/rock group PROJECT WYZE, I couldn't help but hype up the show not only for my band but for a group that I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing.

(Bobby & Yas)

Like most other teenage Canadians, I remember my copy of "Misfits.strangers.liars.friends" and wearing it down to the point of no return, so it was great to see Bobby and Yas back in the saddle with DCS and the assistance of DJ Dopey.  "Blood Music" met with great success, landing the guys on the Vans Warped Tour,  countless tours and even got a slot on the "xXx: State of The Union" soundtrack with their single "Messiah".  All of a sudden....nothing.

All went silent from the group as they jumped from [Bif Naked's] Her Royal Majesty's Records, then to Bodog, and now at their new home 6.8.2 Records.  Six years later and the label is proud to release their sophomore “The Throwaway Kids” on August 6th, 2013.

Calling out all my Misfits, DeadHeads, Juggalos, Brothers and Sisters, and all our DCS family and friends: The time has finally arrived. We have submerged from the underground, crawled forth from the shadows and have risen up from the Dead. Dead Celebrity Status is BACK!!! -DCS

Official release date is scheduled for August 6th, 2013. Stay tuned for album pre-orders, videos, singles, merch and a multimedia experience unlike anything you have ever witnessed before.

Very much interested in what this new form of multimedia experience is going to be.  Not that they have to win me over by any means, but after spending so much time out of the musical spotlight, it's going to take a good launch and promotion to get them back in the media spotlight.  I'm sure they have no problem stepping up to the challenge.  So here is the artwork, track listing and album guests below:

1. Them (A Prelude)
2. The Throwaway Kids
3. Hurts Like… (featuring Bea)
4. They Will Love You
5. What Have We Become
6. Dancing On The Sun
7. DCS Massive (featuring D-Sisive & Mag-T)
8. Pretty Little Creepshow
9. Shut It Down
10. Rockstar
11. Dead Famous
12. Say No More (featuring Ellie Lawson)
13. Nothing In Common

One thing I am a big fan of when it comes to promotion and releasing new albums...be on time!  By that, I mean that the visuals, music, interviews, a single, track listings and more should be moving flawlessly together.  Give them a sensory overload if you will.  It captures the attention of your followers/fans without any questions.  Sure there are times where you tease new material to your fans, but you have to do it all pre-planned (I feel).  DCS did just that with the release of their new website, album art, track listing, visuals and more.  They have already released their first lyric video for "Shut It Down", which you can check out below:

Dead Celebrity Status have seen firsthand the effects of capitalistic parasitism after filming their upcoming music video in the heart of Detroit’s urban decay.

With poverty pervasive, financial desolation rampant, neighborhoods falling into disrepair, a corrosion of foreclosures, ongoing job cuts, and the cities wealthy elite and corrupt political establishment sitting back, growing richer from extortions, bribes and fraud, the city of Detroit has had its artery slashed and is bleeding to death as the country continues to overlook the plight that has plagued America’s once prodigal city.

For Dead Celebrity Status, the realities of this truth was nothing more than a harrowing myth until after their visit to Detroit to film a music video for their upcoming album. With their locations already scouted and filming set to begin in several parts of Detroit, the duo behind the critically acclaimed hip/hop group, Yas Taalat and Bobby McIntosh soon saw the severity of Detroit’s social and cultural decay firsthand.

“It was shocking,” Taalat said. “It was shocking hearing the personal stories of the people living here. These are genuine people who are shackled to the world they’re born into. With the confluence of urban decay not only impacting the living standards for the majority of the cities working class population, it has also hastened the collapse of the educational system. Throughout Detroit, schools have been abandoned or severely underfunded and left to fall apart as poverty further pushes educational genocide. The once booming metropolis known as the auto capitol of the world has now transformed into the largest poor city in America as jobs continue to be eliminated and families are forced to face tremendous financial desolation. “We have to spread the word and raise awareness. Resuscitate life back into Detroit and adjust the problems in a non-superficial way.” “We’re not in this business for fame or money,” Taalat said. “We’re in this for positive reinforcement. We’re here to bring a voice to the unheard and the ignored.

Now, after a six year hiatus with industry red tape and countless barriers, Dead Celebrity Status has returned with the upcoming release of their follow-up album, The Throwaway Kids, through 6.8.2. Records Inc.

Thanks for all the love people! Feels incredible knowing that we have so much support considering we were on such a long hiatus! We feel rejuvenated and hungry like when we first started and its all because of the constant support we get. We are back for good! Much love to all of you and I hope you all like the brand new Dead Celebrity Status site! -DCS
