Not really sure at this point whether its a blessing or a cruse for the lack of notable albums coming out this week. I guess it could work to the benefit of the bands that are releasing. less competition means more album sales in their corner. On the other hand, music enthusiasts may not necessarily like the selection and will hold out till next week for something better.
I believe to be indifferent for this week. Being that there have been a slew of releases over the past few weeks, it'll be nice to play catch up with a few I have missed as the weeks go by.
And what's nice is you can still get a fine blend of genres with the albums coming out this week. You could start your day off right with a mellow selection of Blue Rodeo, or even audiomachine's "Existence" if looking for the ultimate in mellow today. Then as your day progresses you can move into a dance vibe with the groove of Volbeat and their tour edition of "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies". From there you could plan to wreak havoc by playing Living Sacrifice's "Ghost Thief" album or full out destruction with Lamb of God's 10th Anniversary edition of "As The Palaces Burn".
Seems I have planned my day out now. So full circle into the reason bands still out out albums. They need funds, same as anyone else with a mortgage. So if you like the band and/or the artwork then be sure to swing by your local record shop or online retailer. If physical copies aren't your thing then you can always purchase them digitally through a online legal source. Cheers!
(Blue Rodeo - In Our Nature)
I won’t go track by track so as not to rob you of the enjoyment of discovery but I will mention a few standouts. “New Morning Sun” is the lead single and in my opinion there are better choices as this song is very formula Jim. It sounds like a lot of other Jim songs. It is like he put the standard pieces together in the standard order to get the job done. Judge for yourself.
So if you like Blue Rodeo, you will like this album especially if you are a fan of their later work. If you are new to Blue Rodeo, then you are in for an hour of music that resonates with the essence of being Canadian. They defined the genre in this country and continue to roll along in that familiar roots-y groove that have been their hallmark for the last decade. Sit back in that old favourite comfy couch and enjoy. Also, buy the album when it comes out on October 29. -Rob Penfold

Even so, where Living Sacrifice pave their way is not via their influences nor their inexorable vigor. The bands key strength is a persistent ebb and flow that finds them dividing only to later unite. Slight tangents are embarked on by the various members, but the creative wandering only serves to camouflage their true intent. That being to ultimately tighten ranks for an annihilating moment of cohesion.
It’s a tactic they repeatedly use with grace, successfully keeping the listener on their toes while providing innumerable headbang worthy payoffs. With a career that began in the late 80′s, Living Sacrifice have surely endured countless trends and hardships.
But rather than break them down or make them malleable it has only tempered them into the resolute destructive force you find on display here. They may opt to utilize the same weaponry as some of the greats, but thankfully they are also able to employ most of the same cunning. -The PRP
