Music News and New Music for May 16th, 2014

So of course, when running your own blog it can be tough to keep up with the s**tload of stuff that comes across our ears over a weekend!  Some good, some bad, some not even worth mentioning.  I guess that's how I use AFGM in general.  These articles that I go through everyday from various sites (Blabbermouth, CBC, National Post, AV Club, Exclaim, Music News, Rolling Stone, etc.) and sort of "filter" some of the nonsense news such as the latest fashion design, who's got beef with who and who ISN'T doing music...still.

These articles brought forth are for a few different reasons:

1. It is relevant music information that pertains to you as a reader, no matter the level of intent or the genre.

2. They are relevant to the music I would be currently listening to or a genre I have put some attention and focus on.

3. I am rather patriotic about my Canadian music, so that always comes as a first for me.  I enjoy music from all parts of the world respectively, but I still have to promote local if I can.  Canadian music rocks!

4. Because it's humorous and we can always use a good laugh.  Rarely will it be at someone's expense...but then again I am just the guy talking about it.  They're the ones causing the comments.

So in closing, I trust you all will not read EVERY single article posted here.  But I hope you find something of use here and keep the conversation going by forwarding it onto someone else.  Click on each article heading for redirection to the full article.  Cheers!

Arkells Unveil 'High Noon' LP, Premiere New Lyric Video:

"Loud and hard, the rain came down like it meant it. Our van's window wipers worked furiously. It was summer, the band was on the road somewhere in the northeast, and we were driving through a torrential rain storm. Mike couldn't see more than five feet in front of us, and if you spoke at a normal volume you wouldn't be heard. There's always a moment though — in the split second you drive through an underpass — where you find a moment of serenity. It's calm, peaceful and quiet. And then boom — you're back in the shit. 'Come to Light' is about finding that moment and holding on to it." -Max Kerman

Gerard Way Signs to Warner Bros. for Solo Debut:

"I am pleased to let you know I am now signed as a solo artist Warner Bros Records.  My album is near completion, and you should expect to hear things in the near future, even today actually — with a brief snippet of what is to come. I am excited. It's starting again." -Way

Yukon Blonde's Jeffrey Innes Goes Solo as High Ends:

"I initially wanted to do something that was really collaborative, so I wrote a bunch of songs with the idea of bringing friends in.  But all of my friends were on tour, so I ended up doing it myself." -Innes

We honestly have the best fans in the business, not only have they stuck with us through all of the personal up’s and down’s but they have never given up on our music and how we create and deliver what we feel is real and pure. THE WINERY DOGS - 'I'm No Angel' Video:

"Billy Sheehan is my favorite bass player on earth and he has been for almost 30 years now. So to work with him and make music with him for me is an honor. And Richie is someone I have the utmost respect for as an artist. I mean, he is just so underappreciated, not only as a guitarist, but as a singer and a writer as well. I think for me, the most exciting aspect of this band is for people to discover Richie that aren't aware of what a musical genius he is." -Portnoy

300 Bruce Springsteen Artifacts Coming to New Online Museum:

"Sixteen years ago, a few days before my own induction, I stood in my darkened kitchen along with Steve Van Zandt.  Steve was just returning to the band after a 15-year hiatus and he was petitioning me to push the Hall of Fame to induct all of us together. I listened, and the Hall of Fame had its rules, and I was proud of my independence. . . And at the end of our conversation, he just said, 'Yeah, I understand. But Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band — that's the legend.'" -Springsteen

deadmau5 Announces New Double Album:

"It's a good mix of shit I want to do versus shit people want to hear or what they would expect. It's a good balance. It's not like, "Oh, it's such a departure. He's doing smooth jazz." It was when I was working on some live stuff, setlists for shows and stuff like that, and it just must have been a couple of tracks that sounded pretty good stitched together end to start and I thought, "Well, if I ever do an album or compile this into some kind of album this has got to be that part of the order for that." And I just kind of took everything and played musical Tetris with it." -Joel Zimmerman (producer)

"while(1<2)" will drop digitally on June 17th, and physical copies to shortly follow on June 24th via mau5trap/Astralwerks.

Questlove Producing Diplo-hosted VH1 Program:

"The concept behind the series is to showcase A-List musicians and rising acts performing a range of songs, from current hits to covers to collaborative numbers, instantaneously."

Big Boi Signs with Epic Records for Planned Solo Album:

"The album I'm not gonna rush.  I wanted to put something out before the end of the year. It depends, because me and Dre got a lot of work to do from now until the end of October. [But] you're definitely going to get some brand new Big Boi material. Two or three singles before the fall." -Big Boi

Unlocking The Wu-Tang Clan's Secret Album In Morocco:

"Flying more than 3,500 miles from New York to Casablanca for less than a minute of music may seem a bit extravagant. Renting a car and braving Moroccan traffic for 150 additional miles (with a malfunctioning GPS unit, no less) may have been unwise. But there’s more to it than just the audio: the Wu-Tang story has become one of the biggest of the year in the entertainment business." -Zack O'Malley Greenburg

Dr. Dre Declares Himself "The First Billionaire in Hip-Hop" Thanks to Apple's Alleged Purchase of Beats:

"According to Forbes' analysis, however, this deal wouldn't quite make Dre a billionaire. His current net worth is an estimated $550 million, while his stake in Beats is around 20 percent or 25 percent. After taxes, the Beats deal would raise his net worth to around $800 million. This would be enough to top Diddy's $700 million, but not quite enough to make him 'the first billionaire in hip-hop'."

OZZY OSBOURNE Must Protect Bats Before Converting Barn Into Home, Council Says:

"Mr Osbourne cannot convert his listed building until satisfactory surveys and related mitigation, allowing the bats and owls to remain living on the site, is submitted.  We must be satisfied measures have been put in place to protect the animals before planning permission can be considered." -Chiltern District Council

The Word Alive Stream New Track “Broken Circuit”:

Their new album “REAL.“ will be out June 10th, 2014 via Fearless Records.

Sevendust To Film Heavy & Acoustic Shows For Upcoming Live DVD Set:

“Nobody knows this but I’m going to start telling everybody now, but we’re going to do a two-DVD set with an acoustic show and a heavy show and we’re bringing out massive production for the heavy show and we’re going to do it in New York and we’re going to do it at Hammerstein and it’s going to be free and we’re going to destroy that place.

We’re going to bring out so much production, it might be the only time you ever see us like that. I mean, we’re blowing shit up. We’re going to blow stuff up, we’re going to have fire, we’re going to have dragons. We’re going all the way. And I’m not kidding. I talked to the people last night and they’re, like, ‘Listen, you have to have fire.’ They’re, like, ‘I love your band, your band is underrated, you’ve never been able to play with fire and bombs, we’re playing with fire and bombs. We’re going to let people see what Sevendust would look like if they had everybody else’s money.’ So I was, like, ‘Yeah, I like that.’” -Morgan Rose

ALTER BRIDGE/CREED Guitarist MARK TREMONTI Plans Second Solo Album:

"I'm working on that now. I've got about 10 songs ready for pre-production. Slash and Myles [Kennedy, ALTER BRIDGE singer] are going out with AEROSMITH in July and August, so I'll take that time to get back into writing more. Then we'll go back on tour with ALTER BRIDGE in September and October and later his year we'll finish up tracking the new TREMONTI record." -Tremonti

How Coachella, Bonnaroo and More Festivals Revamped the Music Industry:

"Major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza regularly sell out within hours of announcing their lineups. One way those fests stay on top is with "radius clauses," which means bands can't perform at any other show – not even a club gig – within, say, 300 miles and four or five months of their festival date. That can make bands' summer schedules increasingly complicated, to the point that mega-booking agency William Morris has had to create a separate department devoted exclusively to making bands' deals with festivals and managing their touring routes."

Their new album "You Can't Stop Me" will be available on July 15th, 2014 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

ALL THAT REMAINS Working On New Material, Hoping To Enter Studio Soon:

"We're currently working on our new album. It'll be our seventh release. And hopefully we'll be in the studio soon and the album should be out later this year.

I can't really disclose any details. We're just writing right now, so… It's a painstaking process filled with, 'Oh, this is great,' and then the next day, 'Uh, no, this isn't so good.'

Usually, I write a lot of the guitar parts. A lot of times Mike [Martin, guitar] will have an idea or Jason [Costa, drums] will have some good drum ideas. You know, we bounce things off each other and arrangements come together. Phil [Labinte, vocals] takes care of all the lyrics. And there you go." -Oli Herbert

Trivium Part Ways With Drummer Nick Augusto:

“To Trivium Fans, Friends and Family:

I had asked everyone to make this statement regarding Nick, personally and on behalf of the band because of the history we both have had together as friends and bandmates. There is no easy way to go about parting ways with someone; whether it’s in a band or not, but if it is coming directly from one of us, I hope that it will be perceived out of our respect for him.

This past Sunday, Matt, Corey, and I decided that it was best to part ways with Nick and to move forward as soon as possible. This decision was not one that we took lightly, given the fact that we are in the midst of a tour, and more importantly, that Nick has been with us for almost 3 and half years.

We spoke face to face for about an hour on the bus – first informing him of our decision to move forward, both discussing the situation and how to precede with announcing it, as well as personally thanking him for being there when we needed him as a tech, and then as drummer. I made both those calls to Nick - I asked him if he would be willing to drop everything and come out and be apart of Trivium at a moments notice and he did without hesitation. On stage we all fit well together – I believe we became a tighter and more unified band because of him. There was not a dramatic ending to this, honestly it was quite muted and I am happy to have been able to speak directly and calmly to one another.

I believe we all agreed that what started out great “off stage” in the beginning, over time began to fray. It became obvious that things were not going to work out in the long run. We did not want to reach the point where the differences between us became apparent on stage. Being in a band is privilege afforded to us by all of you, and as much as we owe you guys the best show we can possibly give you, we also realize that being out here has to be enjoyable enough for us to continue to do so.

We truly wish nothing but the best for Nick and whatever projects he becomes involved in. We will be rooting for him to succeed. I would like to add that as the one who championed Nick to become our drummer 3 and half years ago, I will be the first person to vouch for him as an incredible drummer and as an immense force and presence on stage. The last show together at Carolina Rebellion was a powerful one, and I am happy to say that we ended our time together on such a high and positive note.

Lastly, I would like to thank our drum tech Mat Madiro for stepping up to the plate and learning our entire set in 24 hours, allowing us to continue this tour without a hitch. We have always tried to treat both band and crew as family, and the support for Mat from our other crew guys has been amazing, thank you all – Eric, Joey, Sam, Jeremy, and Mike! Another HUGE thank you to Volbeat and their crew for giving us their entire sound check at the Niagara Falls show to allow us to run through the set with Mat. They have been a great band to tour with and this act only further solidified to us what stand up guys they are on and off stage.

Nick, thank you once again for the hard work with us, we will always be grateful for the time we spent together with you on the road and in the studio.

Thank you all for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,
Paolo Gregoletto“

METALLICA Bringing Back 'Snake Pit' For Summer Shows:

TONY IOMMI Says BLACK SABBATH's Performance At London's Hyde Park Could Be Band's Last-Ever Concert:

"It could be the last ever SABBATH show.  I don't want it to be, but there's nothing really planned touring-wise after that show, so for all we know that could be it, really. To be honest, I don't want to be touring to this extent too much longer, because it makes me feel so bad.

I'm at a stage now where I have no support, which means I have to see whether the cancer is coming back or if it's still there or what," he said. "I just don't know. It's a bit of a worry. After we finish this tour, I'll go in and have scan, so we'll see what that shows up.

But the show at Hyde Park will a great way to end the European tour," he added. "It has a really great bill, with a really good mix of people. We haven't made any specific plans as the gig is a way off yet, but I think it'll be special." -Iommi

  1. Mmmmm, so Ozzy has to protect bats after having to get needles for rabies because of one. LOL Talk about life biting you in the ass. I heard about the Tony Iommi interview, from reading what he said and after seeing comments on this on social media, some points I have to make.

1: He said probably, not a fact. One thing from these guys, they always do speak individually and sometimes they do speak in a ``over dramatic`` fashion. He is speaking in the now, which is what I love about Tony.

2: We have to look at his health, if he says he is exhausted, he might be thinking ``no way I can go through this all over again``

3: with that being said, there is a chance the cancer is gone and he will get his strength back and he might be ready later on down the road.

4: We all know that Ozzy needs to do another solo album, no because we want him to, but his record company is no doubt telling Sharon and Ozzy ``heh, enough of the Sabbath stuff, your under contract for new solo albums, get to it`` well maybe not in those words but you get where what I am getting at.

5: With that said, if Ozzy goes off and continues his solo career, that will take time to write and record. we may not see a new solo album until 2015. And then a world tour no doubt, which will take him way into 2016. Maybe. And then Sabbath will talk again if they have it in them by that time.

Ozzy and Geezer have said during this tour that would like to do a new album and tour as Sabbath, but I think Tony is being the only reasonable and honest person within the band. He is telling it like it is, a realistic view. By time Ozzy is ready, the others may not be. But I do have to throw another wrench in, and that is Bill Ward, yes my favourite topic. If Bill does decide to stop being a whiny prick about money and actually care about music again, there is a chance that Tony, Geezer and Ozzy would do something with Bill. But that will be a farewell gig or two. (you heard it here first) LOL Who knows. :)
