Serj has been performing in light of his new album that dropped last Tuesday (July 10th, 2012), "Harakiri". The album was released via Reprise Records/Serjical Strike.
"Throughout the album, it seems that Tankian is preparing the listener for something bigger, something serious. On the title track, he lets slip what may be coming: “Father, tell us when is the time to rise,” he cries out, waiting for an answer. While the mystical, natural world shows signs of failing, and Tankian is aware of all of the evil that’s causing it, he’s here to prepare the world for the eventual battle, not necessarily to lead it. Thanks to the flashes of epic, churning, catchy alt-rock, the world will certainly be pumped up and aware of what he sees coming." -Consequence of Sound

By the way, does anyone remember when he put ALL his tracks into a cryptic message via his official website?
“The Cornucopia of love/hate affairs with Gaia have made us scream "Fuck! Let's Figure It Out! CEOs are the disease.” Where abusive capitalism's only fate is human/environmental devastation. The Ching Chime, diminutive drama of a gangsta Butterfly revealed that humanity's tears actually outweigh yearly rainfall on the planet. We have witnessed Harakiri on a grand scale tearing out the Occupied Tears of victims preyed on by victims turned aggressors creating a Deafening Silence through which we hear a voice plead, "Forget Me Knot, my child.” Reality TV has become the searing indictment of a society best described as the Uneducated Democracy. The daughters of the evolution Weave On with blood dripping down their guilty hands onto the flag as the word republic is replaced by empire.”
Hahaha, ohhh Serj you sneaky man!
"The added bit of conventionality actually might help the album appeal to even more people than just prior fans. It’s a pretty good rock album. Again, not really on the metal side of the spectrum, but still a good album nonetheless. The prior fans should have this album already, but if you’re looking for something a little more on the rocky side, this is a good place to go. If you didn’t like Serj Tankian before, this could also be your turning point." -Metal Injection

"And yet for all the noise and clatter, Harakiri is best in its verses and wordplay. Tankian is in many ways a poet and has for years crafted memorable, thought-provoking lyrics. This disc is certainly no exception and the bevy of memorable lines on Harakiri are pages long. So while the disc may not his best album, it is still one that makes you think and challenges you. That in and of itself is why this album will stay relevant, cultural and important. Additionally, those that loved the energy and bombast of Toxicity will find something triumphant at work here. Even when he stumbles, Tankian says more and does more than most artists will in a lifetime. That and that alone is why his musical output is so important to the American rock landscape. Viva Harakiri and Viva Serj!" -Absolute Punk
