Playthroughs of Textures

Hey everyone,

Now I know I have posted about Textures in the past because (let's face it) they got a great original sound, some killer vocals and are pretty stand up guys to boot (met a few of them on their last tour through Canada at The Annex Wreckroom).  Always nice to have a good personality behind that music.  Anywho, while sifting through my daily news feeds I came across some guitar playthroughs that were put together by guitarist Bart Hennephof for any of those inspired musicians looking to shred some Textures on a seven.

The first video he did was from their 2006 record Drawing Circles, which was well received by the music world.  Getting good grades across the board.

"...Drawing Circles gains utter attention right from the outset, with 'Drive' opening our eyes for almost a minute before Eric kicks in with a blisteringly metal “We don’t need a saviour to be saved.” The attitude of the band is openly displayed in this track. 'Denying Gravity' was inspired by Dimebag Darrel, the riffs drawing away from Meshuggah and closing in on Pantera for five minutes of full-fledged fury. Lyrically, the song suggests that we must keep on moving forward. 'Stream of Consciousness' was written in exactly that style, as used by English author Virginia Wolf, without any revision or alteration. 'Upwards' is a six-minute intro to the second half of the record, and contains close vocal similarities to 'Touching The Absolute', though the melodies do vary. 'Touching The Absolute' is the longest track, with a running time of just over 8 minutes, and sums up the feel of the album. Drawing Circles ends with a slightly under 4 minute instrumental outro that reminds us of how intense the musicianship of the band can be, especially taking into consideration the fact that the band records and produces their music themselves in a studio they built in their attic. There may well be no such thing as perfection, but that certainly hasn’t stopped Textures from striving to achieve the impossible." -Metal Underground

The second video is from their more recent album "Dualism", which also came back with some amazing reviews and also got them on some notable tours over the last year or so.

"And that’s the real problem with this record. It’s less a duality, more a three-way interaction of ambience, djent and anthem that makes it so satisfying. It’s also what made ‘Singularity’ such a great preview. The spiralling riffs and chiming synths,  indicative of the more emotionally layered direction of this album. Sheer fury from officially the Best Dutch Guitarist 2011 (no really, it’s on Wikipedia) and producer Jochem Jacobs. Those soaring vocals. If this is how together they sound after a year and a half, the future’s looking pretty rosey.

Of course, it remains to be seen how Dijk and de Jongh will colour the future template of Textures. For now, Dualism is proof that a rose by the same name can smell just as sweet – and even have a little kick of its own." -Thrash Hits
