Since both bands share certain members, I thought it'd be fun to get a small rivalry going. Dio fronted Heaven & Hell's "The Devil You Know" OR Black Sabbath's new album "13"? Which album would YOU choose?
Wow, this is tough. When The Devil You Know came out I had a good listen. And I was overjoyed at the sheer brilliance this album had. These guys definetley showed them young pups in some bands that the old guys can't definetley rock. They sounded amazing, and Ronnie's voice was fantastic. Even live, they sounded awesome.
So, to compare, or at this point go up against 13 will be difficult. I will have to wait until I have a good listen to the new album when it comes out. Ozzy is no Ronnie and vice versa. And vice versa goes to Vinnie and Brad.
But again I will wait until I hear the new album before I make my opinion on who wins this battle of the albums. :)
Okay, after serious listens to the new Sabbath album "13" I am at a loss at which album I would say I liked better. "13" is a really good album, alot of grea tracks. I think Rick Rubin did a not bad job at producing. Ozzy's voice sounds too much like his solo stuff, but I think I can forgive him for that, due to the fact that he doesn't have his "voice" anymore and that is the style he has been used to for the past few year. Geezer sounds great, as usual, and for Tony, some of the best guitar work from him I have heard in a long time. Brad Wilk, I know the debate back and forth, unfortunatley I don't know hi drumming capabilities as I am not a fan of Rage Against the Machine. But I thought he did a great job, keeping it simple. The album does have some good metal-like songs, and one great bluesy song "Damaged Soul" which was a song that was not supposed to be on the album. It is one of the best tracks on the album. Overall, I like it, nothing spectacular, but it is what it is, I was not expecting fireworks, I was just expecting a Sabbath album. And it sounds like the Sabbath of old.
For The Devil you Know- A little different Sabbath album (yes I said it, a Sabbath album)- Great lyrics, great guitar riffs, definetley a Sabbath album led by Ronnie James Dio. There is nothing different from the other albums led by Dio, they are all great, including this one.
It is hard to pick out of these two, which one I would prefer. If you want the newer metal Sabbath, then The Devil You Know. If you prefer old school Sabbath, then "13" is the album......
