Wearing Scars

Well I think it was about time I wrote a little piece on a new project from AFGM interviewee Chris Clancy.  Being that I was a major fan of Chris' past projects like Mutiny Within, I was uber excited to hear his vocals once again in Wearing Scars.  If that wasn't enough of a reason to listen to these guys, guitar guru Andy James is also part o this project; talk about a win win for shredders and vocal lovers!

The group is based out of UK and seems to be gaining some major attention in the metal industry.  Then again, with names such as Clancy and James in the fold, it shouldn't come as a surprise to many that this would be the start of a very talented adventure.  Check out the debut music video below for their single "Butterfly".

“Honestly, it's a pleasure to write when you know you're not limited vocally, so I'm not so much trying to fill the music with impossible riffs and shred. We're both fans of writing more melodic, sonically pleasing music, so it's nice to create more freely in that regard. And we both write, as before most of the writing in bands has fallen solely on my shoulders being the only guitarist in guitar driven bands” -Andy James

A damn good start to the band I must say.  It encompasses everything you would expect from these guys.  We have precision and technicality of James (and let's not forget the other talented members), and the operatic style of Clancy.  I would have liked to hear some more of those screams he was famous for in Mutiny Within, but I can appreciate his vocals enough to set the screaming bias aside.  I admit the song has a ballad vibe to it from the get go, but even then Wearing Scars holds their own and showcases those vocals and solos mentioned above.

“Andy turned my songs from being a mediocre solo album to something really special. I play guitar and write songs but lack that ‘spark’ when it comes to guitar. Andy took my very basic parts and developed them into something far more interesting that still served the song well. Andy has added a whole energy to everything that simply wouldn't have been there.” -Chris Clancy

So as quickly mentioned above, this project is the brain child of Clancy and James, but also carries three other talented members to round out Wearing Scars.  They are:

Chris Clancy - Vocals | Andy James - Guitar
Daniel Woodyer - Guitar | Craig Daws - Bass | Lee Newell - Drums

For those of you wondering, Newell and Daws were part of metal project Sacred Mother Tongue, alongside James.  So we have found a few details surrounding the debut album from these guys.  It will be released on July 24th, 2015 via Candyman Records.  I am under the assumption that Chris was the producer of this album as well, as he has been very successful with production (such as Mutiny Within's sophomore album Synchronicity) in the past.

So hopefully we can provide you all with as much information as necessary to win you over and pre-order a copy of the album.  For now, you can also check out the lyric video for sophomore single "Become Numb".  Cheers and enjoy wearing your scars!  Pre-order information is listed below:

The progress in the musical output for both is immediately evident, and any pining for Sacred Mother Tongue or Mutiny Within will disappear within seconds of the first listen of their debut song ‘Become Numb’. Mixing heavy, syncopated grooves, glorious riffs, Andy’s signature shred and Chris’s angelic, soaring vocals, it’s a promising taste of things to come.

What happens next is yet to be written, but if there's any truth to the old adage "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger", then WEARING SCARS should be unstoppable. -Facebook
