My first (and only) encounter with After The Burial was the five piece opening for Norma Jean at The Opera House a few years ago in the good ol' city of Toronto. Like a fiend who has just discovered a new dragon to chase, I was hooked on the group after they pummeled me with a live performance of "Cursing Akhenaten".

So with my luck, the band toured the globe in promotion of "In Dreams" and then silence (at least creatively) fell on the band for almost 3 years. With such a great response from their 2010 release, I was sure the band would jump right back into the studio and hash out another album. Not that I was disappointed, but that anticipation shortly faded as other bands were taking the forefront of my attention with their releases.
Then on September 9th, we get a sign of life from the studio...
And then as of today, the official press statement came out announcing the band's upcoming album release "Wolves Within". How f**king awesome is that?! Well, I know my level of excitement may be different from the rest of you so I apologize if this is less than appealing to you. So about that press statement...
Minnesota based AFTER THE BURIAL have returned with what is being hailed as their career defining album, Wolves Within, which is now set for a Dec 17th release. It's been three years since the band has released any new material, but upon first listen it's very evident that it's been well worth the wait. The tech wizardry is amped way up, the breakdowns are massive and face melting and the vocal delivery is the most devastating yet. Already lauded for their technically impressive yet well structured style of songwriting, AFTER THE BURIAL certainly takes things up a notch or two with this newest outing.
"We are beyond excited to announce that our new album, Wolves Within, will be released December 17th on Sumerian Records. We've spent the last two years pushing our own limits in an attempt to give you what we feel is some of the most crushing and dynamic material we've written to date. We feel like this record is a new beginning for us. We are continually trying to push our own musical and creative boundaries that have yet to be explored, and simultaneously paving the way for the future of our sound.
We also couldn't be happier to announce that we have re-signed with Sumerian Records. We have so much respect for not only everyone at the label, but for all of the bands on the roster as well. For almost six years, Sumerian has been our home, and the home to many of our favorite bands. None of us could ask for a better setting right now, having the opportunity to work with our friends on a daily basis doing what we love." -Justin Lowe
So we got some comments, press statements, cover art and a new lyric video all in one bundle. THIS IS HOW YOU PROMOTE AN ALBUM!
Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen signed a new ink deal for the band and the new "Wolves Within" album.
"Re-signing AFTER THE BURIAL is a momentous day for Sumerian. ATB has been a very important band to the label for many years. They're a group of great people with diligence and determination for their craft who happen to also be excellent musicians. The cultural significance of AFTER THE BURIAL as a band and Sumerian Records as a brand have grown in tandem and are now at an all time high. Here's to more years of kicking ass together. Twin Cities Crush FTW." -Ash Avildsen (Sumerian Records Founder)
