In Memoriam: New Music From Evile!

So I want to chat a lil bit about the new music video that Evile just released.  A very nice, well blended ballad style song (written by former bassist Mike Alexander [R.I.P.]) with a great bass solo opening to set the mood for the tune.  This song, as well as the rest of the album definitely reminds me of a newer age edition of your standard classics such as Metallica, Slayer, Testament, etc.  Argue how you want, this is how I view the band and by others who discussed the album with moi.  These guys have been in existence since '99 (officially named 'Evile' in 2004) and even state a few thrash influences in their bio:

"Evile, yet to be called so, initially formed in 1999 playing covers in their local area.  Initially Influenced by bands such as Metallica, Sepultura, Exodus, Annihilator and Slayer to name but a few..."

Anyways, here is the artwork for the single and the music video that goes with it.  I'm sure you can hear the influences of older thrash metal bands as you're checking out the tune.  If you hear something else or wanna to compare it to other influences, drop a comment and let's chat about it:

"In Memoriam" is featured off Evile's latest album, "Five Serpent's Teeth", which hit stores on September 26th, 2012 via Earache Records.  You can check out their album artwork and track listing below for the album:

1. Five Serpent's Teeth
2. In Dreams of Terror
3. Cult
4. Eternal Empire
5. Xaraya
6. Origin of Oblivion
7. Centurion
8. In Memoriam (lyrics: Ol Drake. music: Evile and Mike Alexander)
9. Descent into Madness
10. Long Live New Flesh (music: Evile and Mike Alexander)

"The consequence of all this is a fucking great metal record. Not a genre-padding thrash album, not a nostalgia exercise, but an album that stands on its own merit. Evile have set an example to their peers in Five Serpent’s Teeth that should be followed, proving that it’s entirely possible to be inspired by music from a quarter of a century ago and still sound original. Oh, and be bloody excellent while you’re doing it." -Thrashhits.com

"Evile’s third studio production had me realize that thrash is not dead, and in fact, it is back and better than ever. The serpent had bit me, and injected a very lethal dose of thrash. I have no intention of calling a hospital, for I am already hooked on this album. I would recommend this to anyone who is not only just a fan of thrash metal, but the genre of metal itself. “Five Serpent’s Teeth” undoubtedly gets a 10/10 from me. Everything was just done right with this production. All the instruments had come through nice and clear and the music is beautifully written. Evile had stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam. What are you waiting for? Go purchase this album and enjoy your Descent Into Madness.." -realmetalreviews.com

"Bottom Line...You'll be hard-pressed to find a better all-round thrash record this year, by my reckoning. Five Serpent's Teeth sees Evile live up to every single bit of hype they've ever received, with nothing but great songs and jaw-dropping playing from start to end." -One Metal

For those that were impressed enough to watch "In Memoriam" above, the guys also did a great job on their first music video from this album.  The track chosen was "Cult", which you can check out below:

  1. WTF????? They sound like Metallica, when Metallica moved away from.....well metal!!!!!I mean the real thrash metal they got them to where they are. The first song is totally the commercial Metallica all over again. And the song Cult has a good riff, but it doesn`t sound anything like the great thrash metal from their previous albums. Sounds they are following the route of Metallica, don`t want to do that my friends. Only recent has Metallica has come back to the land of Metal. It took them along time. I will have to listen to the whole album of Evile to get a good idea, but from these tracks, that they decided to release first, is not a good indicator to me. Well that is my two cents worth. :)

  2. Ok, I see what you're getting at. I apologize for leaving that part out and you are correct, it seems to have that Metallica feeling from the Black album era which may not sit well for true thrash fans like yourself, I can still hear the thrash band influence. To be honest, those tracks they have released as music videos doesn't do them justice. For a recommended track from Five Serpents Teeth, listen to Xaraya. That's the track that made me a fan of that album. Or you can check some of their earlier work, you can maybe hear some more of the influences.
