Red Hot Chili Peppers Sizzle on 2014 Halftime Show

Eat your heart out Grammys!  Funny how a television show that spends 364 days a year preparing for something like the Grammys was [in my opinion] ousted by America's favourite sport...'MURICAN FOOTBALL!

How do the two seem to compete against each other?  Let's break it down by performances.

The Grammys were positively (and negatively on a minor scale) criticized for it's on stage performances throughout the evening's ceremonies.  We saw collaborations from legends of the industry, alongside newcomers and heart throbbers.  We saw Beyonce-Z (haha) and Jay-Z together, Metallica & Lang Lang, Kendrick Lamar & Imagine Dragons, and so on.  You see some mega platinum artists working hand in hand to deliver the best performance they could offer the 28.5 millions fans watching from around the globe.

Now the 2014 edition of the Super Bowl was watched by approximately 100+ million people from 198 countries.  Everyone of course was watching the two mega sport teams (Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos) battle it out for top spot in the NFL.  But some people like myself were not really interested in some heavily amoured guys smashing their heads together for four quarters totaling 60 minutes.  I was more concerned with who would be performing at the game.

"Are u ready for some football?!!!" -Chad Smith (RHCP)

If I had to take my pick between the two, I would have to throw my towel in the Bruno Mars/Red Hot Chili Peppers corner as I found they out-performed any of the acts that happened at the Grammys.  Surely, you have to take into consideration that the NFL is going to throw WAY more money at the halftime show than any of the Grammy performances would have cost, but I guess it's all for the ratings anyways.

After announcing he would no longer be writing for other artists, Bruno Mars showcases himself on the drums as well as a top notch vocalist for the half-time show.  After jamming to a few of his hits (not to mention the upbeat energetic band he has behind him) he was joined by one of rock n roll greats...The Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Anthony and Flea in the typical "no shirt, time to party" attitude, Chris thumping away on a custom NFL drum kit, and newest member Josh Klinghoffer swinging himself and his guitar all over the stage.  Now guaranteeing this stays online but check it out for yourself here:

The collaboration sounded great and looked great on the big screen.  For artists who tend to find themselves in different genres and hanging in different circles, I was quite surprised how well they performed together and how tight the overall experience felt/sounded.

Side note though.  What's with the camera shot of Flea and what appears to be an input jack that's not plugged into anything?  Is that the reason it sounded so good (I kept talking about the bass sound last night during the show and how well it sounded).  I know DI boxes can help with the overall sound, but they still have to actually plug into the instrument right?
