Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Volume 1 LIVE

So I have been 'hooked on a feeling' for quite some time now with regards to the Guardians of the Galaxy OST.  A throwback of a soundtrack that had both young and old groovin in their seats during the movie, it makes sense that it is also one of the biggest selling soundtracks for 2014 (not to mention the biggest domestic film of the year as well).  The songs are not new, but seem to have new life if that makes any sense.  Most of these tracks would be 'turn up the radio' types of moments and would be hit and miss during the scheduled programming.

"One of the main story points in the movie is that Quill has this compilation tape [Awesome Mix #1] that he got from his mother before she died that she made for him. It was of songs that she loved, all songs from the 1970s, and that's the only thing he has left of his mother and that's the only thing he has left of his home on Earth. He uses that as a connection to his past and to the sadness that he feels of having left all that and lost all that." -James Gunn

I found it both odd and interesting that Marvel could compile a playlist like this that is good both in the film and on its own.  It did have an engaging aspect combing older style of music (from Peter Quill's youth) mixed with the sci-fi theme of the films.  Wikipedia cites this as "becoming the first soundtrack album in history consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the chart".

"The score is also very important.  I've worked very hard early on with Tyler Bates, our composer, whom I've done three other movies with, to write part of the score ahead of time so that I'm able to use it on set for big emotional sequences and big action sequences. We can actually play the music on set and the actors can really understand where we're going with it tonally. Our actors have a much better idea of what this film is because of the music that we use, both score and soundtrack." -Gunn

So I couldn't think of a better way to listen to this album than to have live cuts of all the songs!  While everyone is quite familiar with the tracks on the album, I wasn't fortunate enough to be around on the planet when most of these tracks were at their height.  So watching some of these videos was really a throwback for moi.  Hopefully not as bad for some of you.
