Music News and New Music For July 11th, 2013

So of course, when running your own blog solo it can be tough to keep up with the s**tload of stuff that comes across our ears over a weekend!  Some good, some bad, some not even worth mentioning.  I guess that's how I use AFGM in general.  These articles that I go through everyday from various sites (Blabbermouth,. CBC, National Post, AV Club, Exclaim, Music News, Rolling Stone, etc.) and sort of "filter" some of the nonsense news such as the latest fashion design, who's got beef with who and who ISN'T doing music...still.

These articles brought forth are for a few different reasons:

1. It is relevant music information that pertains to you as a reader, no matter the level of intent or the genre.

2. They are relevant to the music I would be currently listening to or a genre I have put some attention and focus on.

3. I am somewhat patriotic about my Canadian music, so that always comes as a first for me.  I enjoy music from all parts of the world respectively, but I still have to promote local if I can.  Canadian music rocks!

4. Because it's humourous and we can ALWAYS use a good laugh.  Rarely will it be at someone's expense...but then again I am just the guy talking about it.  They're the ones causing the comments.

So in closing, I trust you all will not read EVERY single article posted here.  But I hope you find something of use here and keep the conversation going by forwarding it onto someone else.  Click on each article heading for redirection to the full article.  Cheers!

Mo Kenney Wins 2013 SOCAN Songwriting Prize:

"I am honoured to receive the SOCAN Songwriting Prize.  I wrote 'Sucker' in my first apartment in Halifax after getting dumped, I never dreamed back then that I'd win a prize for it. Thanks, SOCAN, and thanks to all the other nominees and the people who voted for me!" -Kenney

The Barenaked Ladies’ grinning streak remains intact on latest album:

"The record, to my ears, sounds more like a Robertson solo record, made with outside producers and with co-writers involving guys not named Stewart, Kevin Hearn and Jim Creeggan. When I bring this up with Robertson, he protests a little. 'I think Kevin and Jim each have songs on the record, just like the last one,' he says, referring to the band’s longtime keyboardist and bassist, respectively. 'Don’t they?'"

10 songs, 10 things - What to make of Kanye West's abrasive new album:

"Whether Yeezus earns similar acclaim is anybody’s guess. Although it is, in many ways, the smartest album of West’s career, it’s hard to see where many of these songs would fit on radio.

Then again, nobody thought Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral would be a smash when it was first released, either."

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA Singer Says New Album Is 'More Mature' Than 'Dead Throne':

"Conceptually, the concepts of 'Dead Throne' didn't carry over. I feel like that would be repetitive and monotonous to keep going at the same subject matter, but obviously, it all comes from the same place and I can say that nothing got more happy or uplifting, really. So I think it's very much THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, but also it's got a bit of freshness and originality to it and I think that even musically we started approaching the songs differently. Like, this song could be more like this and working off of a base we never really worked off of before." -Hranica
