Music News and New Music For April 29th, 2013

So of course, when running your own blog solo it can be tough to keep up with the s**tload of stuff that comes across our ears over a weekend!  Some good, some bad, some not even worth mentioning.  I guess that's how I use AFGM in general.  These articles that I go through everyday from various sites (Blabbermouth,. Bravewords, AV Club, Music News, MissInfo, Billboard, Rolling Stone, etc.) and sort of "filter" some of the nonsense news such as the latest fashion design, who's got beef with who and who ISN'T doing music...still.

These articles brought forth are for a few different reasons:

1. They are relevant music information that pertains to you as a reader, no matter the level of intent or the genre.

2. They are relevant to the music I would be currently listening to or a genre I have put some attention and focus on.

3. I am somewhat patriotic about my Canadian music, so that always comes as a first for me.  I enjoy music from all parts of the world respectively, but I still have to promote local if I can.  Canadian music rocks!

4. Because it's humourous and we can ALWAYS use a good laugh.  Rarely will it be at someone's expense...but then again I am just the guy talking about it.  They're the ones causing the comments.

So in closing, I trust you all will not read EVERY single article posted here.  But I hope you find something of use here and keep the conversation going by forwarding it onto someone else.  Click on each article heading for redirection to the full article.  Cheers!

Rolling Stones rock surprise show at small L.A. club ahead of tour:

"Welcome to Echo Park, a neighbourhood that's always coming up — and I'm glad you're here to welcome an up-and-coming band." -Jagger

Record Store Day Sales Reach New High:

"Record Store Day is a great way to shine the spotlight on the amazing experience that independent record stores bring to music consumers.  With year-over-year growth, and exclusive packages in a format that consumers value with rich content, Record Store Day will continue to be an event that drives music consumers to independent record stores." -David Bakula (senior vice president of client development and insights at Nielsen Entertainment)

Henry Rollins Jams With the Stooges on 'I Got a Right':

iTunes' 10th Anniversary: How Steve Jobs Turned the Industry Upside Down:

"The attraction of Napster was not just that it was free, but more importantly, it gave people a way to connect with pretty much any piece of music.  What Steve was doing with iTunes was to replicate that type of experience – a vast catalog, available on a singles basis, with a convenient interface. It had to be easier than Napster." -Paul Vidich (a vice president of Warner Music Group)

Michael Bublé Sings in NYC Subway:

"This was a dream come true for me. Once you've sung in the subway waiting for the No. 1 train, you know you've made it.

I feel like a real New Yorker now.  Singing in the New York subway is something that's been done for years and years and years and I feel like it's the most authentic, organic way to make music." -Buble

Concert Review: Trent Reznor turns wife Mariqueen Maandig into a star at How To Destroy Angels’ Canadian debut:

"By the time they got to Welcome oblivion, though, the night belong to Maandig, and rightfully so. Reznor is meticulous in his efforts to make his shows look and sound like something you won’t forget, and this HTDA show is designed to elevate Maandig from singer to star. When the chorus of the remixed version of The Space in Between hits, she is exactly that — Reznor drifts into the smokey background and Maandig is the only thing worth looking at and listening to."

Beastie Boys Writing a Memoir:

“The first words out of Mike’s mouth were, ‘I don’t want to do a straight memoir.

After Yauch died, I didn’t push them, but I think that Adam and Mike ended up realizing that it was the right time for them.” -Mr. Janklow (of Janklow & Nesbit)

Atoms for Peace Release New Song 'Magic Beanz':

DEEP PURPLE - “Blitzkrieg”:

"They felt, I guess, that ‘All The Time In The World’ would get play on the softer stations, the Radio 2s of the world, or... I don’t know; I don’t know what their plan was. They’re a great company and they really believe in this record and I can’t remember... I thought to myself, how did they come to that decision? And I can only think that they had a meeting of all the staff and said, ‘Right, what are your feelings?’ I have no idea. I thought at first, you know, that’s not a good thing to put out. But then I thought, it’s certainly going to make the album much more of a blitzkrieg when it does come out." -Roger Glover

Buying Facebook Likes: A Thing Bands Are Doing To Get Ahead. But Will It Backfire?:

"So what can you do? Simple; hover over the "like" button on whatever band pages you like and click on "show in news feed." If it's still giving you trouble, like more of their posts so Facebook will be more apt to put it in your feed. It seems like such an easy solution, and it really is."

HYPOCRISY Forced To Cancel North American Tour:

“As we were getting ready to go get our visas stamped and ready for the tour we were informed that the earliest we could go initially was sometime in July.  We then immediately continued to call them, got the label to help with some letters, and put our lawyer to work etc. The best that got us was an appointment in late June. This is a HUGE blow to us, to our fans and everyone who has supported HYPOCRISY in North America. Sometimes there are battles you can’t win, and this is one of them. We will be back, I can promise that!” -Peter Tägtgren

The single also features Stefan Loh (We Claimed Sentience Once - signed to Revolution Harmony) on guitars, and additional vocals from the young up-and-coming UK singer Abbie Johnson."

MERCENARY Reveal New Album Artwork, Tracklisting, Release Date:

“Last year when we were busy with preproductions, we considered reaching out to Mircea to ask if he'd like to give our new cover a shot, because we liked his recent stuff and wanted to try someone with a fresh approach. Against all odds, however, he actually beat us to it and contacted us first with the exact same offer, so it very much seemed as a collaboration that was meant to be.

After a few sketches, we quickly locked on to the main motive of the cover below, which we felt was both iconic, mysterious and not least, oddly disturbing. Most importantly perhaps, we also felt that Mircea's artwork had managed in a natural way to combine something fresh with the style of our older album covers and their dark and atmospheric vibes.

As our new album is very much a combination our latest material with a lot of the more traditional melodic and melancholic elements of previous Mercenary albums, we felt that this was a perfect visual expression of Mercenary's sound and identity in 2013.

The cover symbolizes a darkness that we have gone through as a band, which we feel that we have finally been able to put behind us. The title of the album is meant very positively and thematizes both the journey through existential darkness as a general theme and the ability to break through it. The lyrical universe is very much about making the most of life and not getting caught up in negativity.”

Nothing has been off-limits. This amazing story will go through SEPULTURA’s history, myths, conflicts, personnel changes and struggles with the Internet economy in the early 2000s as well interviews and rare footage. This documentary is certain to bring fans closer to the band they love."
