Like previous videos that The Sorrow has released, their production values are top notch and really tell a story behind the video...even if it is only 5 minute story. The bass line is not hidden and adds great low end to the song, while the double kicker precision is dead on. The group has generally pushed the dark and ominous vibe throughout their videos and "Retracing Memories" was no exception. Other users online have been quick to point out similar views...

Now while going through the reviews of the albums, I have to agree with a few of them. This wasn't a groundbreaking album by any means but more of a reminder of this great sub genre. Even in a sea of metalcore there can be an album that sticks out and yet doesn't really offer anything new or different. It's just...there. But at the same time, glad that it's there. (If that makes any sense)
The thing is that The Sorrow do what they do very well, quality over originality is one rule that I can relate to very much and The Sorrow's riffs sound fiery enough so I can nod my head throughout the entire course of Misery Escape. -Metal Sound

"The vocals of Matze walk a fine line between heavy screaming and beautiful melodic parts. The guitars are well balanced between the heavy breakdowns and the melodies as well. Once again, if you're a fan of the group (or becoming one) then be sure to check out my previous work surrounding The Sorrow. Four albums into their career and [like wine] continue to get better with age.
The drums are very hard-hitting and so too are the breakdowns, the vocals have remained very strong, and the guitar riffs and leads have improved drastically. There is a fair bit of melody heard on the first track, "Retracing Memories", but the melody presents itself even more a few songs later. -Megusta Reviews
