Music News and New Music for April 4th, 2013

Disappointment for fans as Bon Jovi star Richie Sambora pulls out of world tour due to 'personal reasons':

Due to personal issues, Richie Sambora will not be performing on this upcoming leg.  All shows will go on as scheduled. -Bon Jovi

"We're a band at this point in our career where we can live up to our own legend," Stanley said in a press release.  Legends can be confining because they're cloaked in myth. I've always maintained that obstacles are what you see when you lose sight of your goals. If you know where you're going, you don't see what's in your way.

Kiss has always been about attaining whatever we think is possible. It's about celebrating life and going against the odds for what you believe in. As corny as that may sound, it got me where I am and the naysayers will have to live where they are." -Paul Stanley

Beyoncé Covering Amy Winehouse for The Great Gatsby:

"E! News can exclusively reveal that the "Single Ladies" hitmaker has teamed up with Andre 3000 for a duet of the late singer's "Back to Black" for the soundtrack of the upcoming remake of The Great Gatsby."

"Despite the shrinking interest in physically owning music the survival of independent record stores is crucial if we are to continue to have one of the most exciting and diverse music industries in the world. A great independent record store is an authoritative curator in an endless sea of sounds; it should be like your cool and interesting best friend who is always showing the way to new worlds. Without them we'd all be much more boring." -Cullum

ALTER BRIDGE - "Eight Songs Deep":

"AB is about eight songs deep in writing! There's some pretty heavy, cerebral stuff going on and it sounds awesome. All in all we're really excited when listening back to the demos." -Brian Marshall

JAM: Although it is epic, would Anthrax ever consider releasing 'In The End' as a single?

Benante: "It would be great if we lived in a time when a song did not have to be less than four-minutes to be a single. Music should not be diluted or edited. It should be as free-form as possible and just put out on the radio so people can decide if they want to listen to it."

EDDIE VAN HALEN Explains LL COOL J Collaboration:

"The thought of me playing guitar to hip hop was definitely left of center, but I was intrigued and I agreed to meet and listen to what he had. I was not only inspired by the songs I heard, but LL's enthusiasm, his down-to-earth personality, the freedom he gave me to co-create and his willingness to, for the very first time, sing the chorus on 'We're The Greatest'. It was like a breath of fresh air that I needed as an artist and an individual.  The diversity of the songs on this album and the other artists he has collaborated with is outstanding, appealing to multiple genres of music and maybe even creating a few of our own. I feel blessed to not only have had the opportunity to work with LL, but also to call him a great friend."

Palms (Deftones/Ex-Isis) Officially Complete Debut Album:

“The Palms record is finished and I couldn’t be happier with both the experience of creating this album and how it turned out.

In early March, I met up with Deftones on the East Coast leg of their tour so that Chino and I could wrap up some vocals for the record. We turned hotel rooms and backstage areas into temporary recording studios, which you can see a bit of in the photo gallery above. It was also fun to travel with the Deftones guys and crew for a few days; thanks to them for making me feel welcome and for being such great people.

We’ve now officially handed the record off to the label. No more tweaking things. No more adding or subtracting. It’s nerve-wracking, but it’s also an enormous relief. Now I get to listen to it like a “regular person” instead of scrutinizing every part. The other day I listened to the whole record during a run and it was indescribably satisfying. I hope you guys enjoy the record as much as we enjoyed creating it. It comes out June, 25, 2013 on Ipecac Recordings.” -Chino Moreno

SOUNDGARDEN Sign Administration Pact With BMG Chrysalis US:

“Soundgarden have earned their place in music history as innovators of the rock genre.  We are thrilled to be working with the band during their pivotal reemergence and their catalog that has changed the face of rock music.” -Jill Pedone (creative director at BMG Chrysalis U.S.)

Trioscapes To Offer Tour Only ‘Live’ Release At April Shows:

"On our upcoming tour we will have a TOUR ONLY Live CD from our session in Macon, GA last spring at Symmetry Studios, where we filmed the "Blast Off" video. Limited to 50 copies, with hand screened covers designed by Chuck Johnson and printed by Josh Platt at Death By Ink."

"One of the lessons that we were learned in this process is that instruments like that have to be played.  Our approach to the piano prior to that was not to play it and to protect it and preserve it. The truth is ... it's built to be played." -Robin Terry (Motown Historical Museum's board chair)

Tech N9ne Recruits Serj Tankian, Cee Lo for New Album:

"I had not heard of Tech N9ne when we were sent the track.  I checked out a bunch of his songs and really got into his flow, intensity and dynamics, and I agreed to sing on it.  Originality in hip-hop and rock are hard to come by." -Serj Tankian

"He really is a great director.  Growing up, I was a huge Sopranos fan and one of my favorite episodes is 'The Pine Barrens,' which he directed. Also, I just realized this morning he directed the 'Leap Day' episode of 30 Rock last year; that's one of my favorites. I feel safe in his hands." -Chris Baio

"We are proud to have pioneered the Las Vegas rock residency last year and can’t wait to come back this year to take it over the top with a brand new show that will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen Mötley Crüe do before." -Nikki Sixx
